G&K employees are generous with their time and compassion. Over the past several years our people have volunteered thousands of hours to help others in need.
The volunteer spirit runs deep at G&K, all across our 165 North American locations – and we cultivate it: G&K gives employees time each year to participate in volunteer activities. A large number of our employees take advantage of the opportunity to make a difference.
Often, local volunteer projects take shape spontaneously when employees come together to help others – whether they are rallying around a coworker battling cancer, or re-stocking empty food shelves in Montgomery, Alabama, or climbing the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada.
In 2012, for example, an employee-led group of volunteers honored a beloved G&K employee – a non-smoker – who was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer. An event, dubbed “Maggie’s Light,” was held at G&K Services’ corporate office to ignite awareness of lung cancer, as well as attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest chain of lit glow sticks. It was G&K’s version of the National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil, and Minnesota’s first such event in support of lung cancer awareness.
We also support causes that are important to our customers, as when we joined a car dealership customer to provide meals to the hungry.
